Learning activities pour le Chapitre

not in any other color.
THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE LONG. Click
here for a shorter version. But realize that the "short" version does not give you access
to the weblinks which you need , and which are below. i."
It would be "logical" to read from the page 16 to page 35, wouldn't it? But...unfortunately, certain concepts are more easily understand than others, and yet they appear AFTER the harder ones. So...please be patient as I ask vous to lire (read) certaines pages before other ones.
Partie numéro 1: due to be done Week 3, Day 1.
Read
la Structure 6 (p. 32-33). Learn how to make adjectives agree
in number with nouns they modify. This means, learn when to use, for
example, the word “petit” versus “petits,” “vert” versus “verts,” etc., or even “petit” versus “petites,” “verte” versus
“verts,” etc.
Quia
game on adjectifs.
Now, re-read les pages 32-34 et especially 36-39. If vous know espagnol, write lightly in pencil in your book on pages 36-37, any French/Spanish "cognates" which you recognize (such as admirer/admirar and adorer/adorar). Remember that cognates are not only very similar; sometimes they are not really similar, like aimer/amar and écouter/escuchar.
If you want to print out this document, save it first, as a Word document, then reduce the size of the letters and maybe you'll be able to get it all on one page.

After you finish reading the assigned pages of the
textbook and the "Super Website,"
look
at this list of Erreurs à éviter (Errors to avoid).
| By now, you should have read all of this webpage. You might have even begun to do some or even all of the "writing assignments" by hand. If you have, then you are wonderful. But since we are in a somewhat experimental mode trying to go more and more "on-line," you are hereby invited to 4. click here to go to some important translation exercises in English based on Chapitre 1, and which you will find to be both easy and useful. |
As mentioned before, it would be "logical" to read from the page 16 to page 35, wouldn't it? But...unfortunately, certain concepts are more easily understand than others, and yet they appear AFTER the harder ones. So...please be patient as je ask vous to lire (read) certaines pages before other ones.
Spend 2-3 hours reading Structures 3, 4, 2. (in that order), and doing the exercises which follow those Structures. (Structures refers to "Grammar Structures.") Pronounce the exercises out loud, but do not write them, at least just yet. Just keep reading and you'll understand.
Read Structure 2 (p. 18) and
learn “une, un and des.” They mean “an" or "a” and “some”
Pronounce
out loud!
Now, re-read pages 17-25. Write lightly in pencil in your book: questions, important concepts. Notice that certain activités and exercices are not assigned; you don't have to do those un-assigned activités, but at least you should read them over and figure out how to do them.
STOP! Ask yourself: "Could I take a test on what I've learned?" If not, then you need to read it over again, or get on the web and try to find the answers, and/or email someone in the class for help (including le docteur, if nécessaire). It does not matter how neatly or how wonderfully you've done the work; if you cannot take a test on the material, then you are not ready to go on to the next chapitre. Study for the test!
Spend 2-3 hours reading Structures 4, 1 and doing the exercises which follow those Structures in your mind. (Structures refers to "Grammar Structures.")
When
the book says “Work in pairs,” and you don’t have a partner, make up a dialogue
(!) between two people. Be SURE to change the word “tu” to “vous”
and to change the VERB to the appropriate “-ez” ending.
C’est
la fin du chapitre un. J

Bonjour!
The following material, in green, is now out of date, and you should be well on your way to finishing le chapitre 1. Write all the answers and email me your work before Tuesday, le 17 février 2004 (giauque@ggiauque.org). Bring a paper copy of your work with you.
C'est la fin de la semaine numéro trois! NON! C'est le commencement
de la semaine numéro quatre!!!
C'est le moment de commencer (it's time to begin) le travail (el trabajo/the work)
sérieusement in le livre vert.
Read
through this page, and begin to study the assigned material which is highlighted
or underlined in blue. Be sure to use le livre vert as well.
Do you have to write anything? OUI! After
you have become
well acquainted with the "Structures" and the "Plans,"
click on the translation exercsises mentioned below and underlined in blue. That
is all the writing you will have to do. Merci.
O.K....almost
everyone handed in Le
Take-home Open-Book Test on Chapitre 1, which you wrote as "homework!"
(plus
the "booklet" called "Finding Cognates and Learning Pronunciation").
C'est
excellent. Vous may ignore the writing below in purple print
if you handed the material in.
However, if you still have not done these things, you should finish them before 5 p.m. jeudi (Thursday) le 11 septembre because vous may NOT ignore these instructions with impunity!
OUI!!! Le test est due! WHAT test?
Le Take-home Open-Book Test on Chapitre 1, which you have written as "homework!"
Remember...it is NOT homework! It is a TEST!
Why do some people think they can take a test on certain material when they have not done the writing exercises? C'est impossible!
I am amazed that several people have come to me with questions like: "Are we supposed to hand in the work of "Partie 1?"" Answer: No! EVERYTHING in chapitre 1 is due! When you re-read this webpage, you will see that is what is expected! It is amazing to me that a few people simply do not take literally what has been written. We are in the 4th week of the semester. Please read this material and DO what it says to do! I am SPEAKING to you through these printed words!
Do NOT forget that you must also hand in the 25 pages (items 1-72) of "Finding Cognates and Learning Pronunciation." Yes! ALL items. And there must be a LOT of pencil marks on each page! Be sure to write your name at the top of the first page.
The in-class test will be Wed./Thurs (10-11 Sept), depending on when your class meets. Comment préparer pour l'examen? Étudiez le chapitre 1 et les 15 expressions de "Survival."
